Senior Engineering Managers are responsible for shaping engineering strategy, leading programme development, and applying a systems engineering approach to deliver safe, robust, and compliant technical solutions. Operating as a senior technical authority, the role coordinates specialist engineering input across programmes and ensures that engineered solutions meet organisational, regulatory, and safety expectations.

This position requires strong leadership, deep technical expertise, and the ability to integrate complex engineering disciplines into coherent, high‑quality project outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Governance

  • Act as the Intelligent Client / Intelligent Customer for engineering design services, ensuring external inputs meet required standards.
  • Serve as Delegated Design Authority and/or Project Technical Integrator for relevant aspects of the design, managing interfaces with the supply chain.
  • Operate as the technical authority within your area of responsibility, providing expert guidance and oversight.

Systems Engineering & Solution Development

  • Champion a systems engineering approach to ensure safe, integrated, and high‑quality engineered solutions from the supply chain.
  • Coordinate specialist engineering contributions across programmes, ensuring alignment with project needs and technical baselines.
  • Support the development of engineering strategies, risk management approaches, and programme plans.

Mentoring & Professional Support

  • Provide professional guidance, coaching, and mentoring to Engineering Managers and peers within your technical domain.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and capability development across the engineering function.

Strategic & Programme Support

  • Contribute to the development of engineering strategy and long‑term programme planning.
  • Lead or support risk management activities, ensuring engineering risks are identified, assessed, and effectively managed.
  • Ensure engineering activities are aligned with organisational objectives, regulatory expectations, and safety requirements.
