Waste Compliance Specialists provide expert technical support to ensure waste consignments meet the required standards for disposal at authorised landfills and treatment facilities, including incineration and metals treatment. The role centres on leading Waste Consignment Information (WCI) assessments and ensuring submissions comply with Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC). You will also support the wider Waste Inventory & Compliance (WI&C) function across radiological and non‑radiological capacity management, characterisation assessments, and best‑practice studies.
This position requires strong analytical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate technical requirements clearly to customers and internal teams.
Technical Assessment & Compliance
- Conduct detailed technical assessments of customer WCI submissions to ensure compliance with the latest WAC for disposal at site.
- Review and evaluate Waste Characterisation (WCH) and Waste Variation (WCV) submissions, maintaining accurate and auditable decision‑making records.
- Challenge and review customer BAT/BPM/BPEO studies where relevant to WCH submissions.
- Provide clear, evidence‑based technical advice on waste characterisation methods, treatment options, and disposability considerations.
Support to WI&C Function
- Offer guidance to the WI&C team on complex waste types and associated compliance issues.
- Contribute to the development, maintenance, and improvement of WI&C processes and procedures.
- Support the ongoing development and management of the Characterisation Standard.
Customer Engagement
- Maintain regular communication with customers regarding their submissions, offering constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
- Provide technical support to help customers understand compliance requirements and optimise their waste management approaches.
Process Development & Continuous Improvement
- Support periodic process owner reviews and contribute to the enhancement of compliance workflows.
- Help strengthen organisational capability through improved documentation, guidance, and technical standards.
