Waste Inventory Specialists provide expert support across a wide range of technical and non‑technical activities within the Enterprise Inventory Office. You will lead and contribute to the preparation, analysis, and reporting of waste inventory data to meet regulatory requirements, support site permits, and fulfil obligations to the NDA and other external stakeholders. A key part of the role involves producing high‑quality technical reports and studies that underpin environmental safety cases.

This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across internal teams, regulators, and industry partners.

Job Responsibilities

Inventory Delivery & Technical Work

  • Deliver waste‑inventory‑related tasks as part of a small, specialist team.
  • Support the delivery of the UK Radioactive Waste Inventory (UKRWI) in line with required timescales and quality standards.
  • Produce a wide range of technical outputs, including reports, studies, guidance documents, data analyses, briefing notes, and presentations.
  • Provide inventory data and technical support to the Environmental Safety Case (ESC) Programme, including scenario‑based data for defined site conditions.

Programme & Stakeholder Support

  • Work closely with the ESC team and contractors to support key projects such as Annual Reviews, Periodic Reviews, Environmental Permit requirements, and capacity management activities.
  • Produce Waste Inventory Data Query outputs to support Nuclear Waste Services (NWS), the NDA, and other stakeholders.
  • Support Waste Forecasting (WFO) activities and ensure data quality across the Enterprise Inventory Office.

Data Quality, Tools & Process Improvement

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of tools, software, and documentation used for waste tracking and inventory management.
  • Support improvements in waste inventory practices across the industry through collaboration with Site Licence Companies, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in site‑based audits and desktop reviews, including SMART inventory reviews.

Industry Engagement & Professional Conduct

  • Represent the organisation in cross‑industry groups such as the NDA National Inventory Forum and associated sub‑groups.
  • Take ownership of personal development to broaden knowledge across NDA and non‑NDA sites.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, impartiality, and integrity in all aspects of the role, adhering to organisational standards and expectations.
